IM John Donaldson Lecture Draws Big Crowd at SGVCC

IM John Donaldson was at SGVCC  on January 5th to discuss his new book, “Inside the Mind of Bobby Fischer.” The lecture, which featured over thirty rare photos of Fischer from his days as a child prodigy to World Champion, drew over 40 enthusiastic chess fans. An author of over forty books, Donaldson earned his International Master title in 1983, had a peak USCF rating of 2605 and also earned two GM norms. He was the captain of 15 US Olympic teams and 8 World Team Championship entries. He was Director of the esteemed Mechanics’ Institute Chess Club in San Francisco from 1988 to 2018.

An author of two books on Fischer, Donaldson shared deeply researched biographical information abut Fischer, his family, and the chess players and teachers who influenced him.  Attendees were appreciative to have the opportunity to get a signed copy of the book by its author.
